Sculptural installation displayed in the storefront at 445 President-Kennedy Avenue in Montreal as part of the 3rd edition of VITRINE SUR L’ART – MANIPULATIONS, an initiative of Art Souterrain, curator Pascale Beaudet, from June 25th to September 30th, 2019.

The mission of VITRINE SUR L’ART – MANIPULATIONS is to promote young Quebecois creations and embellish the commercial spaces left vacant in the Montreal downtown area. A dozen Montreal artists have been selected by Quebec curator Pascale Baudet as part of this project under the aegis of Art Souterrain. Artificial intelligence, digital platforms, virtual art, computer-guided laser cutting, 3D printing… Can art still be mastered by the hand of the artist? Since the 16th century, a rift has been created between fine art and crafts. In the 20th century, the artist became the designer of the work, and its production was often entrusted to specialized technicians. This 3rd edition’s theme is therefore based on both the material itself and the manufacturing process. Since the beginning of his practice, Marc Dulude has used a host of materials in an experimental way: mirrors, bicycles, rubber, plaster, magnets… His approach is not linked to a particular material, but rather to the effect he can derive from it. Unpredictability as a key component of poetry and surprise, directs the fate of the work, in concert with gravity and time.
