Artist residencies at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop, within the framework of Jeunes Pépinières in Lumsden and in Huntly, from October 1st to December 15th, 2008, in Scotland. Some works produced during this creative residency were exhibited at the Séquence Artists Center in Chicoutimi and at the Mountain Standard Time performative art and TRUCK Contemporary Art TR:AFICC residency in Calgary, Alberta in 2009.
During a residency at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop, Scotland’s scenery inspired the artist to create The Invisible Bike thereby exploring the notions of landscapes and wandering. How does one convey the idea of a landscape without representing it? How does one convey the notion of travel and wandering, using an object or even a vehicle? The Invisible Bike is a bicycle covered with mirrors of various shapes. Taking on the silhouette of a bicycle, this specular object reflects the people, the architecture and the scenery passing before the spectator. The mirrors covering the bike give the impression of levitating the cyclist through kaleidoscopic scenery. For a fleeting moment in time, the bicycle becomes the representation of a landscape and of a place visited. As such, the object fades, captivating our imagination, allowing us to perceive the scenery in a new light.
