“The first of three opening evenings opened at the university gallery with Marc Dulude’s first solo exhibition. The Present streched installation. Although this graduate of the interdisciplinary baccalaureate in arts from UQAC designed seductive and playful mechanisms, the staging of these devices soon made the whole thing resonate on more serious and more disturbing notes than it seemed. Thus, from the first dark room where a luminous fluid slid through an absurd maze radiating ultraviolet rays, to the second clinical room where as we approached a very large painting framed by two mattresses under which invisible automatons ran – this Present streched of Dulude was spread out horizontally and exhibited the weak transcendence of desire and the simplicity of the syntagms of the expense linked to its quest. From there, Dulude outlined how habit and commerce often prevail over presence and gift, questioning our attitude in this very place where a work that we wish to see practiced with assiduity takes place. » − Michel Lemelin
