Context :
Public artwork set up at the Victor Lavigne elementary school in Saint-Leonard.
This work represents nature’s bounty and the possibilities of modern technology in the evolution of society. The sculpture is made up of seven ellipses that evoke the shape of a nest and the pistil of a flower, due to translucent rings of various colors at the heart of each of the rhizomes. The fluid form of the work is between representation and abstraction and alludes to the idea of innovation, computer science and the organic growth of a community. The artistic intervention highlights the architecture of the building, through the nature of its materials which allow natural light to seep through. The title Source suggests a nurturing and protective environment. As a place of learning and a living space, the school as a source of learning is meant to be inspiring and it allows for an individual and a community to flourish.
